Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country Team! Girl's Cross-Country Team

Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country Team who finished as the KHSAA CLASS AA STATE RUNNER-UP this past Saturday in Lexington!  The girls did an incredible job and narrowly missed being first place!  Please congratulate these ladies, as well as Coaches Phillip Caudill and Hillary Rice, on their outstanding performance on Saturday!

Local Planning Committee Meeting

The local planning committee will meet at Central Office at 5:30 pm on September 19, 2017.  Any interested community member is welcome to attend.

Public hearing for tax levy

The Ashland Independent Board of Education will hold a public hearing in the Gymnasium of the Ashland Board of Education Office at 1820 Hickman Street on September 15, 2017, at 5:30pm to hear public comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 67.8 cents on real property and 67.8 cents on personal property.

The Ashland Independent Board of Education will accept sealed bids at its office at 1820 Hickman Street, Ashland, Kentucky, until Thursday, August 3, 2017, 3:00 P.M., E.D.S.T., for the following item:

All bids are to be sealed in an envelope and clearly identified as “BIDS-PIZZA”.  Instructional packets may be obtained at the Central Office of the District at 1820 Hickman Street, Ashland, Kentucky 41101 or online at www.ashland.kyschools.us.  All bids should be delivered or mailed to the address listed above.  Formal consideration of the bids will occur at a special called meeting in August of the Ashland Independent Board at the Central Office.

The Ashland Independent Board of Education reserves the right to award or reject any or all bids and to waive any informality in the manner of bids presented.

Class of 2017 Graduation

Paul G. Blazer High School Class of 2017 will graduate on Sunday, May 21st at 5:00 p.m at Putnam Stadium.  In case of poor weather the ceremony will be moved to the high school gymnasium.

Project Ignite Project IGNITE logo

The Ashland Independent School District is pleased to announce the offering of an exciting new summer camp.  Project IGNITE is a summer learning experience designed for students currently in grades 3, 4 and 5 and will be offered June 5-9, 2017.  The students will experience science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through hands-on investigations that promote innovation and creativity.  The focus this year will be “Exploring Energy!”  Students will spend four electrifying days rotating through five learning activities designed to peak interest and explore the wide world of energy.  The week will conclude with a field trip to COSI’s Energy Explorers exhibit.  Students won’t want to miss this opportunity to build new skills that peak curiosity and “ignite” ingenuity.  Visit Project IGNITE for more information.

Ashland Independent Schools Registration Set

Registration for Head Start, Preschool and Primary School (formerly kindergarten and first grade students) will be held in the Ashland Independent School District during the week of March 27- March 31, 2017.  Registration hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.   Evening hours are available on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

R.A.P.P. Program

A free educational program for parents, grandparents, relatives and guardians currently raising children will be offered on March 16, 2017 from 11 am until 1 pm at the First Christian Church.  Local family service organizations will be hosting the program and will be on hand to answer your parenting questions.  Please read the attached brochure for more information.

Title I - In the Know Night

On Tuesday evening, March 21, 2017 at 6:00 pm the district will be hosting a Title I informational seminar.  The session will take place in the board room at central office.  Questions regarding Infinite Campus, kindergarten, school readiness and much more will be addressed.  We hope you will mark your calendar and join us.

2017-18 Calendar Survey

The calendar survey is now closed.  We would like to thank everyone for their input.  The feedback we recieved was especially helpful.  Of the 940 responses we recieved, 43.72% selected option 1 and 54.47% selected option 2.  The board of education will meet on Monday, January 23, 2017 to examine the survey results and make a final decision.

Walk to School Day!

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017 The Ashland Independent School District will be participating in International Walk to School Day. All students are encouraged to participate.

High Attendance Day!

September 20 is statewide “High Attendance Day” to emphasize that consistent attendance is essential for success in school. If in class regularly, a student is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and to reach academic performance benchmarks on time.  Let’s see if Ashland can have 100% attendance on September 20th !

2017 Summer Feed Program! Summer feed program flyer

The Ashland Independent School District is excited to announce our participation in the Kentucky Summer Food Service Program.  The Summer Feed Program provides free meals to children and teens 18 years and under.  Crabbe Elementary will be serving breakfast and lunch daily Monday through Friday.  Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.  Lunch will be served 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  The site will be closed on May 29th, July 4th, and July 20th, 2017.  Please contact Linda Calhoun at 327-2706 for more information.

All Schools Closed Monday August 21

As a safety precaution, school will be closed on Monday, Aug 21, 2017 due to the Solar Eclipse. All after school activities will be suspended until 4:30 pm following the eclipse window. Students will make this day up on Friday March 16, 2018 which was a scheduled PD day.

Solar Eclipse and Eye Safety Resources for August 21

A total solar eclipse is probably the most spectacular astronomical event that most people will experience in their lives. There is a great deal of interest in watching eclipses, but it must be done safely.  Because of this exceptional opportunity, there is concern that people will be more likely to stare at the Sun during this event.  Improper viewing of the Sun during an eclipse can result in eye injuries such as the development of "eclipse blindness" or retinal burns.

KY High Attendance Day High Attendance Celebration

Congratulations to Poage Elementary for having the highest attendance on KY High Attendance Day. 98.59%!
In honor of their accomplishment students at Poage Elementary will be treated with a school-wide dance and pizza party!

 

What's for Lunch?

The Ashland Independent School District Food Service Department is excited about the 2017- 2018 school year! We have adjusted all school menus to include tastier versions of entrees and added new items while still staying within the United State Department of Agriculture’s nutritional guidelines. All Ashland schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision program. ALL students will receive ONE FREE breakfast and ONE FREE lunch at no charge each day.  Parents may still deposit money on their child’s meal account through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal which will allow students to purchase an additional meal, entrée, side, milk, and/or a’ la-carte item(s).  A second breakfast will be $1.50 and a second lunch will be $2.00.  Breakfast and Lunch menus are listed below.

Voluntary Student Insurance

Each school year the district offers voluntary student insurance coverage to interested parents.  Information as well as a current enrollment form can be found using the link below. 

 

Enrollment Forms now Available Online

Each year students recieve an enrollment packet for parents to complete prior to the start of school.  The forms are required by state law/district prodecure and must be updated each year.  If you would like to save time and complete the forms electroncially prior to the start of school, all of our documents are now accessible online.  

To access forms visit the Enrollment link from the left menu.  The entire set of forms must be completed for each child in your family (except for the household income form) and brought to the school.  Elementary enrollment forms are due the first day of school.  Secondary enrollment forms are due at time of schedule pickup.

Forms can be downloaded and printed using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader (https://get.adobe.com/reader/).  Google Chrome is the preferred and easiest browser for this task.

Kindergarten Entry Age Change for 17-18 School Year

There is a new cutoff date starting next school year to enroll your child in kindergarten. Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, children must be 5 years old as of August 1 to enroll in kindergarten in a Kentucky public school.  Please review the following links if this change will affect your family.  Questions regarding kindergarten entry can be directed to Lisa Henson, Director of Student Services @ 606-327-2706.
