Governor Beshear's Executive Order

The following is a summary of the executive order made earlier this week by Governor Breshear.

  1.  All public and private elementary, middle, and high schools (kindergarten through grade 12) shall cease in-person instruction and transition to remote or virtual instruction beginning November 23, 2020.
  2. All middle and high schools (grades 6 through 12) shall remain in remote or virtual instruction and not resume in-person instruction prior to January 4, 2021.
  3. For the period from December 7, 2020 to January 4, 2021, all elementary schools (K-5) may reopen for in-person instruction, provided:
  1.  The school is not located in a Red Zone County, as provided by the Kentucky Department of Public Health on the COVID-19 website; AND
  2. The school follows all Expectations and Best Practices for Kentucky Schools
  1. Nothing in this Order shall prohibit schools from providing small group in-person targeted services, as provided in KDE guidance.

What does this mean for AISD students?

The district will re-evaluate the possibility of re-opening elementary schools only for in-person instruction beginning on December 7 depending on Boyd County’s color on the state map on December 3.

A Message from the Health Department

The Ashland-Boyd County Health Department has provided the following message and requested that the district share with our families.

Calling all contacts of positive cases cannot be accomplished in the midst of a large surge of COVID-19 cases we are currently experiencing. We have provided two one-page flyers to explain what to do if you were exposed to COVID or tested positive.

Positive cases will be categorized based on risk factors and contacted accordingly.

District Seeking Classified Special Education Instructional Substitutes

The Ashland Independent School District is seeking applicants for Special Education Instructional Assistant Substitutes. A Special Education Instructional Assistant Substitute assists a special education teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of special education students. If you are interested in applying, go to Ashland Independent Schools website and click on Employment and submit an application for Classified Instructional Assistant Substitute. Meal Service During Red Indicator

The Ashland Independent School District will continue to provide meals when Boyd County is identified as a “RED” county and our school district implements a virtual learning platform for ALL students.  Breakfast and lunch will be served on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with an additional breakfast and lunch provided on non-service days. The drive-thru system will be utilized at all 8 school sites between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  In order to receive a meal via the drive-thru at one of the 8 school locations, the child must be present OR the parent/guardian must present the student’s meal card to the food service worker at the time of meal pick-up.  Please note we will NOT provide mobile sites during this time.  If you have questions, please contact Linda Calhoun or Lena Reese at 606-327-2706 or your child’s cafeteria manager.

Notice of COVID-19 Reporting

The state has enacted an emergency regulation (902 KAR 2:020E) requiring all schools to report the number of new COVID-19 cases among students and staff. Parents and guardians are required to alert their child’s school if they test positive for COVID-19. In addition, schools will have to report the number of students and staff who are quarantined because of exposure to the virus. If you have any questions, please contact the
