The library media program of the Ashland Independent School system strives to prepare students who are proficient in the use of the school Library Media Center (LMC) and its resources, develop an appreciation of literature, and make effective use of information literacy skills throughout their lives.
In accordance with American Association of School Librarians guidelines, Ashland library media centers will:
*provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
*provide instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information and ideas
*work with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
In acquiring information literacy skills, the students have the opportunity to practice these skills across all curriculum areas. Students will then be confident in their use of the LMC and its resources. Students will be able to use problem-solving, critical thinking and research skills. The program will develop confident library media users so as to expand their world of information and develop lifelong skills for acquiring and utilizing knowledge in a changing society.
