District Social Worker

Services Offered by District Social Worker/Counselor

  • Individual counseling for school issues, grief issues, truancy issues, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, anger management, or any other mental health issue that may need to be approached on an individual basis.

  • Offer parenting groups during certain times of the school year.

  • Offer Group therapy sessions to students per request of school personnel.

  • Support services to parents of students that I see on an individual basis.

  • Offer crisis intervention to all schools in the district.

  • Coordinate a peer mediation program with Verity students where the students are the mediators working with conflicts within their own peers. We hope to extend this program into Blazer by the 2003-2004 school year.

  • Conduct weekly groups with Ms. Tomlins WIA students at the high school.

  • Home visits for social work issues where appropriate related to school issues.

  • Help in any referral process to community agencies for parents of students in the district.

  • Coordinates a Student Threat Assessment team if a threat is made within the district to continue keeping our schools safe for our children.

Shawn Crump, District Social Worker/Counselor, has 22 years of clinical experience including individual counseling, grief work, group work, and crisis management. He has a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky. This is his 4th year with the Ashland Independent School District.
